The Healthy Nails Collaborative (HNC)

"The knowledge YOU NEED to know about nails"

Right click to save

This month is about slowing down and checking what’s really in front of you, your products, your lamps, your habits. Small things make a big difference.

Here are three easy ways to participate:

1. Make sure you have SDS sheets for all of your products and you have read them.

2. Check your lamp. Make sure it’s the one tested for your system and the diodes are clean.

3. Review your prep and cure steps. Safe application isn’t just about what you use,it’s about how.

4.  Make your profile picture on social media, the NPSA nail for the month of November, right click on the photo above to save.

Share one thing you’ve learned this year on your social media that made your services safer. The more we talk about safety, the stronger the industry becomes.

This November marks the fourth year of Nail Product Safety Awareness Month with the Healthy Nails Collaborative. The idea began back in 2021 when one of Amber’s followers suggested having a dedicated awareness day, a simple, visual way to help the message of product safety reach more people. That idea grew into a full month focused on education, awareness, and better habits across the nail industry. A great way to take part is by adding the NPSA pink nail logo (pictured above) to your profile photo across social media. It’s an easy way to start conversations, show your support, and remind others that safety is at the heart of every beautiful set.

The Healthy Nails Collaborative is launching HNC Brand Verification!  A new standard for transparency, testing, and safety in professional nail products.  Before it’s finalized, we’re opening it to public consultation.  Read it. Question it. Shape it.  Your input helps define what “verified safe” really means for our industry. [Join the conversation →]

The HNC Nail Tech Science & Safety Accreditation

First of it's kind, professional education program that takes advanced nail science and brings it down to the nail tech table level. This is about more than reading a science book. It’s about understanding how the research applies to nail technicians, their tools, their products, and their clients, and then learning how to communicate that knowledge with confidence.

This program is built entirely on Doug Schoon’s Advanced Chemistry of Nails: A Modern Education Guide to Products and Nail Structure and contains no opinions or outside additions. It is strictly the teaching of Doug Schoon’s book, which the Healthy Nails Collaborative upholds as the benchmark for nail product safety education.

Modules are released weekly and cover topics such as nail anatomy, infection control, chemistry, product safety, curing science, and more. Every module is drawn directly from Doug Schoon’s published work without alteration, but presented in a way that connects directly to the realities of salon practice.  READ MORE

What the Federal Safety Research Cuts Mean for Nail Professionals

In April 2025, the U.S. government slashed funding and staffing for the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), the agency responsible for researching workplace health risks. Reports say up to 92% of NIOSH staff were let go in one day, ending or suspending countless research programs.  For the nail industry, this news is more than a political headline, it’s personal. Truth About TPO Ban

The European Union’s recent decision to ban trimethylbenzoyl diphenylphosphine oxide (TPO) in cosmetics has caused confusion across the nail industry. Some are calling it a sudden safety crackdown. Others assume it came out of nowhere. The reality is simpler and much less dramatic when you look at the law. Read more..
